We Are Excited for Our 8th Season 2025 - The Five Senses

Please join us at City Park adjacent to the Public Library in the heart of beautiful Edwardsville. Our events kick off with a pre-concert performance at 6:30 with the Symphony’s program beginning at 7:00 This year the pre-concerts will feature talented young music students throughout the area. Our Symphony is made up of local professional musicians.

The theme of this year’s concerts is the Five Senses. You will experience the wonders of music and hear a wide variety of compositions from various genres and eras.

A new feature this year will be a chocolate fundraiser with creations by Crave Cave Sweets. Indulge your sense of taste and support the Edwardsville Symphony. The Edwardsville Symphony is a 501(c) (3) nonprofit. We are blessed to be partially supported by the Edwardsville City Parks and Recreation Department and the remainder of our funding comes from local fundraisers, our sales of our t-shirts, tote bags, and donations at our concerts.

We are grateful for the generous support of our community. Our seasonal sponsors are The Bank of Madison County, Cassens and Sons Dodge, Chrysler Ram & Jeep, Country Financial Agent Joe DeVary, Halpin Music and Redmon Insurance. We also appreciate the support of individuals who have donated.

Please bring your lawn chairs or picnic blankets and enjoy nights of peace and wonderful music. At each concert we have a children’s crafts table with art activities provided by our collaborator Edwardsville Unity.

Scheherazade by Rimsky-Korsakov

This beautiful symphonic suite is based on One Thousand and One Nights (Arabian Nights) a collection of folktales. Scheherazade is the narrator. Each night she tells these stories to the ruler Shahryan. The ruler’s wife has been unfaithful and then believes all women to be the same. He marries women and has them executed the next morning. Sheherazade’s father is under pressure to provide women. Sheherazade offers herself. On her wedding night, she starts to tell the king stories, but doesn’t finish them. He keeps her alive to hear more and she continues each night weaving stories together but never finishing the same night. Characters included in the stories are Aladdin, Sinbad and Ali Baba. The stories go on for 1001 nights. In the end, the king pardons Scheherazade and spares her life.
